Hot Water freezes faster than Cold Water

Weird Science!

Hot water freezes faster than cold water. This article doesn't show any conclusive reason why. But I have a theory...

At the molecular level, hot water experiences more Brownian Motion than cold water. The molecules are more active. This heightened activity of the molecules allows the molecules to more easily fall into alignment. The more they align, the easier it is for them to lose energy, and freeze into a crystalline structure. Just as applying vibration to sand will cause it to settle faster.

What do you think?

Las Vegas Christmas 2011 Photo Scavenger Hunt

This year's Christmas gift to the kids was a trip to spend Christmas in Las Vegas.  Eight of us all together...  Lorne, Shari, Kayla, Ryan, Lyzz, Owen, Angelo (friend of Ryan's), and Conway (co-worker with Kayla & Owen).
Because we had four Las Vegas newbies on the trip, we decided to put together a Photo Scavenger Hunt to give them something to do, and to give them the opportunity to see the whole Las Vegas Strip.

Shari and I used some of our points and did a whirlwind trip to LV in July to go collect photo targets.  We came back with about 265 shots to choose from.  Out of those, we picked 61 shots that we figured would make good targets.  We then found some cheap little plastic photo albums that hold 38 photos, so we had to weed out 23 of them to make the final set of 38.  So each of our four Las Vegas newbies had a little album of targets to take with them as they wandered around the strip.

And here are the 23 that were not included in the final set.

Kevin Regan (co-worker with Lorne) did a test-run of the Photo Scavenger Hunt the weekend before Christmas and managed to score a total of 310 points, mostly centered around the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana.  Plus an honorable mention for Target 9...  he found a 7-Eleven with the same address on the building, but on a different street!

Final tallied results from our four Scavengers...
Lyzz: 175 points
Angelo: 465 points
Ryan: 480 points
Kayla: 585 points
However...  It turns out that Kayla didn't actually take all of the pictures. She had some "experienced" help. One night Owen and Conway went out and took most of the pictures that Kayla submitted.  But it was all for a good time, and Kayla gracefully bowed out and we all declared Ryan to be the actual winner.

Everyone is already talking about the possibility of doing Las Vegas for Christmas again for next year!
